News
March 1st is Take Action Day!
We have great news! The Dog and Cat Breeder Regulation bill has been introduced at the Minnesota State Legislature. The bill number in the Minnesota Senate is S.F. 462, introduced by Senator Barb Goodwin. The bill number in the House of Representatives is H.F. 702, introduced by Representative John Lesch.
The purpose of the bills are to reduce inhumane dog and cat breeding practices in Minnesota by unscrupulous or negligent breeders by requiring licenses, allowing for inspections and enforcement of penalties.
We are asking that Minnesotans who believe dogs and cats deserve to be treated humanely and disapprove of these practices contact their legislators on March 1 to voice their support.

Our Accomplishments
We
have completed several projects in the seven-county area including
Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties.
Our
projects have resulted in the spayed or neutered over 1000
dogs and cats from low-income households.
When
you consider that each pair of unsterilized dogs or cats can produce
at least two litters of three to four offspring each year
sterilizations have saved communities the expense and hardship related
to 8,000 more unwanted animals in just the first generation of breeding.

Project Completion History
Of
the surgeries completed to date, 20% of the females were pregnant.
Many of the households had multiple animals, which often consisted
of both males and females, creating a high risk and incidence of
reproduction. The participating animals ranged in age from 3 months
(the minimum age requirement) to 7 years and most (over 80%) had
never been seen by a veterinarian.
